Honestly, Ryan Coogler seems to be arrogant asshole with an overinflated sense of self importance here. He’s just out of film school but acts like he’s too good to start as an assistant to the First AD. Meanwhile people with his experience would be begging to be in his place, so his mindset feels pretty unrealistic.
Most of the ‘arrogant stuff’ is in his head. You can’t blame someone for thinking that their job is shit. I used to think the same thing when I was an intern years ago and I was given grunt work, and I knew that I was capable of doing much more meaningful things. It was only years later that I realized why the grunt work was important for me in my formative years.
