I thought he needed permission from Columbia to make movies for others?
How those agreements work can be a little confusing, but this is all real. (I have researched it.) As long as Columbia doesn’t have a project for him, he can make any movie, and Columbia won’t offer him anything until the first movie is a big hit. The whole purpose of the three-picture deal is that the studio would be able to get him at cheaper rates when he becomes big in the future. So if they hire him before the release of The Blue Lagoon, that would defeat the purpose of the contract entirely. Also, legally, they can’t force Noah not to work with others. That’s an unfair trade practice, and a lawsuit waiting to happen.
